About Almond Street Garage

Our History

For over fifty years, Almond Street Garage has provided experienced quality auto repair and maintenance services to the Port Richmond community. In 1997, shop ownership was transferred to local resident Paul Decker (who started working at the same shop in 1978), overseeing both the top-quality operations and the stewardship towards his customers and neighbors. In late 2025, Paul put his tools away for the final time to spend much deserved time with his incredible wife and grandson. Before retiring, Paul decided that rather than closing the doors of Almond Street Garage, the shop would be sold to Steven Grau, a close family friend and nephew of longtime Almond Street Garage mechanic Ed Lutz.

A native of Lawncrest, Steven worked several years at the ports in Port Richmond before starting an electrical contracting company at age thirty. Within seven years, this company became a local household name in commercial/residential electrical and HVAC contracting services across Philadelphia (but especially in Port Richmond) due largely in part to Steven's hard work and dedication. Before becoming the new owner of Almond Street Garage, Steven was also a long-time customer of Almond Street Garage; he understood that the shop was not only a place for auto repair services, but also a long-standing institution in a historic neighborhood. Steven excited to keep Almond Street Garage business operating with the same staff, operations, and warm customer service known in the community.
